Valley Hills Realty Scholarship ProgramValley Hills Realty is offering a scholarship program to assist deserving children who may not qualify for the typical scholarships. The program is also meant to assist students who to stay in the local residential areas upon graduation, as well as study in local colleges.
April 10, 2017 ( datsyn.com) - Aside from helping families qualify as first time home buyers for their first homes, "We want to help out kids in our community that may not qualify for the typical scholarship programs. As well as giving a helping hand to those kids that are planning on staying local after high school graduation but want to continue their learning," said Gene Perez while explaining some of the criteria that will be used to select the scholarship candidates.
The scholarship award which will range from $250.00 to $1,000.00 can only be used for attendance of Allan Hancock College or Cuesta College or a post-secondary accredited educational or vocational program located on the Central Coast.
The scholarship is meant to cover tuition and school-related expenses such as books or equipment to aid the student in completing their education.
For a student to qualify for the Valley Hills Realty Scholarship he or she must be currently be enrolled with any of the high schools in Maria, Lompoc Valley, Nipomo, or Arroyo Grande Valley. The students must also have attended school in the mentioned area for at least 2 of the possible four areas. In terms of academic performance, a GPA of more than 2.5 is required. Apart from the requirements on residence and academics, the successful applicant must demonstrate that their household median income is less than $45,000.00 and they have the capacity to overcome challenges. This is done through submitting an essay describing the ability.
The applicants are supposed to be less than nineteen years of age at the time of graduation. The students are supposed to have enrolled to their school of choice within a year after completing high school. Two references are required, one from current as well as past teachers. One must declare whether there is a conflict of interest especially on the relations with the agent of Valley Hills Realty, an applicant should not be a member of immediate or extended family of any of the agents.
While explaining the selection process, Gene Perez said that it will be based on a competitive basis where each consideration will be weighed heavily. Among the considerations will be the applicant’s essay as well as the testimonials from current and past teachers. The demonstration of financial need will score highly in the selection process and so is the participation of the applicant. Other factors which will come into play during the process are incidences of disabilities, being a first generation college student and the students who are considered high risk.
